Violent Attack in Queens: Nassau Authorities Investigate Alleged Throat Slashing by Local Man on Girlfriend

Queens Man Slashes Girlfriend’s Throat in Elmont

In Elmont on Sunday, a lovers’ quarrel took a horrifying turn when Charles McKenzie, a 36-year-old resident of 229th Street in Queens, allegedly attacked his girlfriend, inflicting a severe gash wound to her throat. The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Elmont Road and Dutch Broadway, according to the 5th Precinct Police.

At his arraignment today, an Assistant District Attorney revealed that McKenzie had a prior conviction for Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree on May 2, 2019, stemming from another incident in Nassau County. This ominous background raised concerns about McKenzie’s propensity for violence.

The court documents detailed the brutal assault, noting that the victim, a 31-year-old woman, narrowly escaped a life-threatening injury as the knife missed her carotid artery. Prosecutors argued that this evidence indicated McKenzie’s intent to cause the victim’s death. To support their case, prosecutors submitted a domestic violence report, a deposition from the victim, and photographic evidence of her injuries.

In response to the gravity of the charges, prosecutors requested that McKenzie be remanded into custody without bail. The court granted this request, emphasizing the need to ensure public safety and prevent any further harm to the victim.

During the arraignment, McKenzie pleaded Not Guilty to the charges of Attempted Murder (New York Penal Law 110-125.25 01) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon (PL 265.02 01). His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20, 2023, as legal proceedings unfold to address the alleged heinous acts.

As a protective measure, an order of protection has been issued in favor of the injured girlfriend, safeguarding her from any potential contact or harm by McKenzie. Unfortunately, the current condition of the victim remains unknown, adding an element of uncertainty to an already distressing situation.

Charles McKenzie now finds himself in custody at the Nassau Correctional Center in East Meadow, where he awaits further legal proceedings. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for both the accused and the victim, highlighting the urgent need to address issues of domestic violence within our communities.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from unresolved conflicts within relationships. As the legal process unfolds, the hope is that justice will be served, and steps can be taken to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.
